BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top advisory body, held a meeting Monday to study and discuss the essence of the just-concluded Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting, at which Vice President Xi Jinping delivered a report on the topic. They are both members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.     In his opening speech, Jia highlighted the importance of the CPC Central Committee's session under the current situation as China is exerting efforts to cope with the impact of the international financial crisis in an effective way, maintaining a stable and relatively fast economic growth, striving for new victories in building an overall prosperous society, and opening up a new situation for the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics. NEW DELHI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The 13th China-India Boundary Talks were held on Friday and Saturday in the Indian capital.     Chinese Special Representative, State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Indian Special Representative, National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister M.K. Narayanan exchanged in-depth views about relevant issues in an atmosphere of frankness and friendliness. PHUKET, Thailand, July 22 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States need to maintain high-level contact and deepen cooperation in various areas of common concern, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here Wednesday in his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.     Yang said the two countries should also keep close communication and collaboration on global issues and properly handle disputes and sensitive issues in order to push forward bilateral ties. Clinton and U.S. Treasure Secretary Timothy Geithner will be joined for the dialogue by their respective Chinese Co-Chairs, State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Vice Premier Wang Qishan.     The dialogue will focus on addressing the challenges and opportunities that both countries face on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global areas of immediate and long-term strategic and economic interests.     On Wednesday, Yang also met with his counterparts from Russia, South Korea and Pakistan.

BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China resolutely opposes U.S. move to start anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations into seamless steel pipes imported from China, the Ministry of Commerce(MOC) said.     The current hardships facing the U.S. steel industry was because consumption and demand waned after the financial crisis. "Blindly blaming Chinese imports of dumping or subsidies is lack of factual bases, which China strongly opposes," MOC announced in a statement on its website Saturday.     The statement came after U.S. Department of Commerce said Wednesday that it had initiated anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations at the request of the U.S. Steel Corporation, V&M Star LP, TMK IPSCO and the United Steelworkers (USW).     The U.S. petitioners requested a 98.37-percent anti-dumping duty against the Chinese imports and additional countervailing duties to offset what they allege are Chinese government subsidies.     The case was the seventh such investigations this year launched by the U.S. Department of Commerce against Chinese imports that included claims of both dumping and subsidies, MOC said.     Resorting to trade protectionism would not solve the real problem, instead it would hurt the interests of U.S. downstream steel businesses as well as bilateral trade, it said.

NANJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao reaffirmed during the weekend that China would unwaveringly adhere to its moderately easy monetary policy in face of economic difficulties and challengesWen said China would maintain both its proactive fiscal and moderate monetary policies, and work on economic restructuring to strengthen recovery from the global downturn.     During a three-day inspection tour that ended Sunday in the eastern Jiangsu Province, one of China's economic powerhouses, Wen said China should focus on maintaining stable and rapid economic development and accelerating economic restructuring.     China's economy still faced hardships and challenges because of the gloomy international economic outlook, he said. With weakened external demand, Chinese enterprises faced significant overcapacity, while domestic demand was still restricted by various factors.     The impact of governmental stimulation of the economy would gradually lessen and long-term policies needed time to pay off, Wen said. Therefore, China's macroeconomic policy would not change.     The premier's remarks echoed a similar announcement made by a senior economic planning official Friday that overseas market conditions were still severe and the country's economic policy direction would remain unchanged.     Although the country's economy was showing signs of recovery, it still faced many difficulties in maintaining stability, said Zhu Zhixin, vice minister in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission.     On his third visit to Jiangsu since the global financial crisis hit, Wen also praised "better-than-expected" results in eliminating pollution from the country's third largest fresh water lake Taihu over the past two years, since a blue algae outbreak in 2007.     Wen was told that more than 3,000 small chemical plants surrounding the lake had been closed and about 1,000 new facilities had been installed to treat sewage from nearby villages into the lake.

HAVANA, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo on Thursday visited Fidel Castro, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, in Havana, a source with the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) confirmed.     The two leaders had a two-hour conversation in a sincere and friendly atmosphere on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern, the source added.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), spoke highly of the China-Cuba relationship, according to a NPC press release.     Bilateral relationship between China and Cuba is at its best time in history, Wu said, adding that China would strive to push its relations with Cuba to a new high by continuously expanding their friendly cooperation in various fields.     Castro said Cuba closely follows China's economic and social development and feels proud when China scores new achievements.     China's success is of special significance for Cuba and all the developing nations, he added.     "The Cuban people, along with the Chinese people, will continue to support each other, work closely and intensify their cooperation with the aim to maintain world peace and realize common development," the press release quoted Castro as saying.     On China's efforts to curb the global financial crisis, Wu said China is actively participating in international cooperation while striving to maintain a steady and relatively fast economic growth.     He said developing countries should have a greater representation and a bigger say in endeavor to deal with the global financial crisis and reform the global financial system.     He also urged the international community to try to minimize the damage the current crisis inflicts on the developing nations, especially on the most underdeveloped ones.     Wu arrived in Havana on Tuesday at the invitation of Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada, president of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power (CNAPP).     Cuba is the first leg of Wu's three-nation American tour, which will also take him to the Bahamas and the United States.     China established diplomatic relations with Cuba on Sept. 28, 1960. Cuba was the first Latin American country to have diplomatic ties with China.

BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Industrial enterprises in 22 Chinese provinces, regions and municipalities generated 1.11 trillion yuan (163 billion U.S. dollars) of profit in the first seven months, down 17.3 percent from the same period last year, according to the latest official figures.     The decline is 3.8 percentage points lower than that in the first six months, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a statement Friday.     The revenues gathered by the industrial companies' core businesses reached 21.4 trillion yuan in the first seven months, up 0.9 percent from last year. The growth rate is 0.5 percentage points higher than that in the first six months.     Of the 39 industrial sectors, 14 achieved a rebound in profit growth, nine recorded a slow-down in profit declines and four turned slumping profit to rebounding profit.     The 22 regions refer to China's provinces, regions and municipalities minus Beijing, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hunan, Guangdong, Anhui, Hainan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Tibet Autonomous Region.     The NBS used to publicize national industrial profit every two months, but began to issue the information monthly to improve monitoring frequency on economy this year. Only 22 provinces, regions or municipalities now provide monthly industrial profit data.
