The US State Department has ordered all American employees at the United States Consulate in Wuhan to leave the city, as a lockdown imposed on central China expanded.
The US exported 97 million short tons (MMst) of coal in 2017, a 61 percent increase over the 2016 level, as exports to Asia more than doubled from 15.7 MMst in 2016 to 32.8 MMst in 2017, including about 3.2 MMst to China, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

The US Distilled Spirits Council said in a statement said that "we strongly supported China's entry into the World Trade Organization in 2001. This resulted in a dramatic reduction in China's tariffs on US spirits, from 65 percent to 10 percent ad valorem. In addition, China last year further lowered its tariffs on whiskeys and brandies to 5 percent as part of a wider effort to lower tariffs on a range of consumer goods imports."
The US will also temporarily shut down its consulate general in the city.
The US Federal Reserve recently cut the interest rates by a quarter-percentage point to buoy the US economy amid a global slowdown and the continuing US-China trade dispute, the first time since 2008 when the subprime mortgage crisis threatened to torpedo the US economy. China's central bank may not necessarily cut rates, as the Chinese economy is in a different situation compared to some developed economies, where low inflation and precarious growth are key concerns. But, there will likely be leeway in China's monetary policy in the following months.

The United States and Afghan Taliban signed an agreement in late February, which called for a full withdrawal of the US military forces from Afghanistan by May 2021 if the Taliban meets the conditions of the deal, including severing ties with terrorist groups.
