BERN, Switzerland, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- China and Switzerland decided on Tuesday to begin a joint feasibility study on creating a bilateral free trade zone in the second half of this year in preparation for formally launching negotiations on the issue.     During talks in the Swiss capital, visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and President of the Swiss Confederation Hans-Rudolf Merz exchanged views on the current international financial and economic situation and briefed each other on the policies and measures China and Switzerland have taken regarding the international financial crisis. BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau Xi Jinping Friday conferred certificates on graduates of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee.     Xi, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, heads the school.     Politburo member and director of the CPC Central Committee Organization Department Li Yuanchao and Ling Jihua, director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, both members of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the graduation ceremony.     The ceremony marked the graduation of 577 Party officials from the Central Party School and more than 2,600 graduates from the school's branches.     The Party School of the CPC Central Committee is the highest institution for training high- and middle-ranking party officials and Maxist theoreticians. The School's history dates back to the school of Marxism and Communism set up in March 1933.

VICTORIA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Seychellois President James Alix Michel and Speaker of the country's National Assembly Patrick Herminie, Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo arrived here Wednesday afternoon to begin an official visit to the country on the final leg of his five-nation African tour.     In a written statement released at the airport upon his arrival, Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, highlighted the rapid development of the China-Seychelles relations in the past 32 years since the two nations forged the diplomatic relations, noting that the bilateral cooperation between the two nations have brought concrete benefit to the two peoples. BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The latest test found that Chinese baby formula milk and other milk powder products met the new temporary restrictions on melamine, the country's top quality control agency said on Thursday.     It was the 13th test on the industrial chemical following the tainted baby formula scandal that killed at least three infants and sickened more than 50,000 others, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).     The latest test covered 60 batches of baby formula milk powder from 14 brands in five major cities nationwide, and 68 batches of other milk powder products from 22 brands in 12 cities, the agency said.     At present, 1,336 batches of baby formula from 74 brands and 1,935 batches of other milk powder from 178 brands produced after Sept. 14 were tested and all were in line with the limit, it added.     Melamine, often used in the manufacturing of plastics, was added to sub-standard or diluted milk to make the protein levels appear higher.     China set temporary limits on melamine content in dairy products earlier this month. The limits were a maximum of 1 mg of melamine per kg of infant formula and a maximum 2.5 mg per kg for liquid milk, milk powder and food products containing at least 15 percent milk.

BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Railway stations across China expect to handle a record of 188 million passengers heading home to family for the Lunar New Year holidays. Railway departments nationwide are examining maintenance and transport facilities to ensure a smooth operation, according to the ministry.     At the same time, MOR released an emergency mechanism on Monday in preparation for possible severe weather such as snow storms and fog.     Hundreds of thousands of passengers were stranded at railway stations in southern China before this year's Spring Festival as blizzards paralyzed transportation.

BRUSSELS, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- China and the European Union (EU) on Friday agreed to strengthen practical cooperation in jointly addressing the current global financial crisis.     The agreement came after talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, who arrived here on Thursday for a visit to the EU headquarters, and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.     Wen told Barroso that China, in its foreign relations, lays a strategic emphasis on developing the comprehensive strategic partnership with the EU, and promoting cooperation to jointly tide over the current difficulties should be a key task for both sides under current circumstances.     To this end, both sides need to trust and respect each other, treat each other equally and aim for mutual benefit, Wen said. In particular, China and the EU should address each other's major concerns and try to stave off disputes, he added.     Barroso said the EU and China have seen close, deep and fruitful relations, and, as two major forces in the world, many global issues cannot be solved without EU-China cooperation.     The EU is ready to promote dialogue and cooperation with China to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level, he said.     To jointly tackle the global financial crisis, China and the EU agreed to expand information exchanges between financial institutions, the central banks and financial supervisory and regulatory bodies.     Both sides pledged to promote trade and investment.
