“It’s an opportunity for Amazon to be able to tell a story that they are people-centric, and that they are not just customer-centric and customer-obsessed but they are employee-obsessed,” Swerland said.
“The cause of our troubles is actually the complexity that science has given us,” Gawande said during a 2012 TED Talk titled “How do we heal medicine?”
“It is wonderful that government and businesses alike are becoming aware of the severity of the issue and the need for implementation of scalable solutions,” he said. “However, given available solutions, nobody sees an economically scalable and sustainable solution and that leads to confusion and disagreements.”
“It’s the fact that it all worked all the time, completely reliable without me having to spend any time on it,” Kindel said of his favorite thing about the system.
“The point is we aim to create a workplace for the future, (and) involving the young generation and future workforce is a must.
“It was epic,” said one attendee afterward. “I thought I knew Amazon before, but now I have a much clearer understanding of where they’re headed, how technology plays a role, and how I can apply lessons from Amazon’s business to my own company and career.”

“It’s part of the conversation that’s happening in all 20 cities right now,” he said, explaining that the HQ2 contenders are all asking themselves, “Look at what happened in Seattle. Do you want that to happen in your city?”

“It’s such a good question, and it’s absolutely right,” Bezos said. “We can afford to do things that fail, but we can’t afford to do things that if they succeed, they’re small. We need to do things that if they succeed can be large — and we have a number of such things underway.”
“It’s really important that city government make it very clear that we respect, admire, and welcome employers,” Burgess said. “We want to create jobs in our city and it’s very important that we stay closely aligned to our business community so that we’re strategically headed in the right direction.”
